In responce to Lauren's comment....
This was going to just be a 'reply' comment, but I got on a roll. It ended up being way too fucking long for that space, so here it is! This is my reply to you, Lauren, and all who care to read.
This has been, and probably will be, the most heated presidential election of our lifetimes. We should all really take a moment and realize what a monumental moment in history this was. The first president elected to office that was not caucasian. That, coupled with a record breaking turn out of voters, means that we just experienced a moment in America that will be forever spoken of.
With the understanding of how heated of a race this was, I expect no surprises with what people are saying about President Elect Obama's planned policies. We also need to remember that we must respect the opinions of others. Freedom of expression, religion, press, and thought are what make America the beacon of hope that it is. Obama's election to the presidency, with him being the mix of a true african-american(by this I mean someone who actually came from Africa to be an American), caucasian, and Lord knows what other races, proves that anyone can do anything.
This year's election has bolstered and solidified my patriotism. We are the greatest nation in the world. The Declaration of Independance, Constitution, Ghettesburg Address, and Bill of Rights have all been vindicated this very month. I have always taken pride in being an American. Now I will wear it like a badge of honor on my sleeve. I appreciate being able to take part in this moment. We all should!
In all sincerety, take a moment and reflect, everyone. Sit back and
find comfort in the fact that those of us that voted all had a hand in
history. Regardless of who we wanted to take office, we made our
decisions. We spoke out. This was the election that we all made our
voices heard. Our names will not be remembered, but or beliefs will.
Our decision shall, forever, be etched in stone for all of American
history.
